Young lust

Wed Jul 23, 2008, 7:29 PM
So, I’m hanging out in a coffee house right now, trying to break through the brick wall that has erected itself in front of my brain. The best part about my evening so far has been a young couple who sat immediately in front of me for about 10 minutes. The woman was in my line of sight: cute face, boobs I couldn’t help but notice given the plunge in her shirt, and pleading eyes. The guy had his back to me so all I really noticed about him was his constant twirling of one of his dreads.

He’d followed her to the table, literally dragging his feet. Here is the gist of their conversation:

He: Why are we here again? What exactly did we need to talk about?
She: You keep saying you’re confused, but you won’t say what you’re confused about.
He: You know – what I said already.
She: But that didn’t make any sense.
He: Yes it did.
She: So all you wanted to do was sleep with me; you didn’t want to go out with me?
He: I don’t know.
She: That can’t be true. Everyone was saying you liked me.
He: I liked what I saw.
She: But I’ll miss our conversations.
He: What conversations?

It went on like that for a few minutes, then to this:

She: Do you think we’ll ever sleep together again?
He: Sure, if we’re both drunk.
She: You know you’ll still think about me.
He: No I won’t. Not unless you’re standing in front of me.
She: You did before.
He: No I didn’t.
She: You’ll never forget about me.
He: Yes I will.
She: No you won’t. I promise you, you’ll keep thinking about me and how much you want to get with me again.
He: No I won’t. (Standing, stepping away and opening up his phone)
She: (Hurrying to her feet) Yes you will. You know you won’t forget about me.
He: Yes I will.
She: (Grabbing his arm) No you won’t.
He: (Putting the phone to his ear) “Hi Piper, just a sec, ok?” (Turning to the woman he was with) “I just did.”

......
Man, I felt bad for BOTH of them.

Ya little eavesdropper :poke: Thanks for sharing, pretty engrossing dialogue!

Well, that's inspiration right there, I would say!

That would be really interesting to hear. Kind of sad, though. Romance is dead to the common population.

You are correct. :ashamed: But is it really eavesdropping if they are talking like no-one is listening? Anyway, it was too funny/sad not to share and I was on DA anyway, so ... :)

It was a sort of inspiration; at least I wrote something, right, even though it was just words from other mouths. Ha ha.

Dead? Maybe, or maybe just "disguised". Something for me to ponder - thanks!

Mm. Well, the media's depiction of romance is all really physical... which is sad. And then there's the literary element, which is usually purely emotional. Like, purely emotional. So what happens after you get tired of so-and-so? You break up. Or divorce.

That translates into the people thinking that romance is like that--well, really just kids. Kids now grow up with a pretty misleading image of romance and love and all that. And seriously, all the romance trash people are writing nowadays (COUGH TWILIGHT COUGH) is not going to have any good effects on their fans.

That was weird. I'm not sure that made sense. Oh well. :D

 Someone just - i.e.: on Friday - gave me Twilight to read. I told her I doubted it, but would try the first few pages, because I don't like to pre-judge.
Yes, romance.... Your response made perfect sense. To me romance is about finding a connection with someone which is strong enough to last through the "honeymoon" phase, but recognizing that the honeymoon phase has its benefits too. It's important to be strong enought to know when to let go. A romantic connection for me is emotional, spiritual and yes, physical. Romance, to me, is knowing how someone likes their coffee, knowing when to leave them alone, putting their needs before yours and not worrying that it won't be reciprocal because you know it will and, this is a big one for me, having someone take raw meat out of the package for me (real meat, like from a cow or chicken, not the other kind), because although I'll cook it, I don't like to touch it.
A big romantic thing for me too is holding hands - all about the connection.
That's all I have for now, but will probably think about it more, or write something.:)

I wasn't chastising you! People talk of private things very loudly all the time these days. I have heard more from one-sided cell phone calls than I ever wanted to hear! i don't understand it.

Oh, I didn't think you were. And yes, I agree - so people are so electronically addicted that another human face in the vicinity is completely meaningless. It gives a whole new meaning to "connecting" with others.
